Hey, hey! It’s that time of year again when gift giving is on our minds. Inflation, the economy, the state of the world, and general existential dread are already giving us all enough stress, especially on our dollars. So if you’re getting gifts for the knitter and/or crocheter in your life you want to make sure it’s worth your money and that it’ll be a gift they’ll love!

I know most of the lists that makers see on this topic are focused on what crafty gifts to make for others, but I wanted to make sure we weren’t left out of the gift getting process. We love gifts too! As a maker who has been blessed to have gotten and given many crafty gifts, I’ve learned a thing or 2 about what gifts seem like a good idea, and what gifts would actually be useful. No one likes cheap tools that can hurt your hands or ruin your yarn, but EVERYONE likes goodies from their favorite yarn shop! I know this approach—listing gifts NOT to get—can seem like a little dose of ✨holiday spice✨ but I’m one of those people who would rather a friend tell me that I have a piece of spinach from lunch stuck in my teeth. And we’re friends, right?! RIGHT! So I want to let you know some of the things (in my humble opinion) that you may want to skip as gifts this year. Now, there are exceptions to every rule and you know your maker best, but I thought up some general gifting tips that I hope are super helpful.

Just a few notes. This is by no means an exhaustive list. Every maker is different and I’m sure there are things that I’ve forgotten, or didn’t think about in time, or have never heard of! So if you have some ideas of what gifts would be good to get makers please leave them in the comments on the video! These are also just my opinion and if you staunchly disagree, comment that too! I’d love to know! Also, I’ve created this list because the #HolidaySeason is a big gift-buying time of year, but this by no means has to only apply to Christmas. Feel free to use these ideas as thought starters for gifts you’re getting all through the year, for whatever holidays you celebrate where gifts are appropriate.
